The International Book Forum is a Turin International Book Fair initiative realized thanks to the economic and organizational support of the Italian Trade Commission (ICE) and to the Regione Piemonte funding. It is realized within the Convention Regione Piemonte - ICE stipulated according to the program agreement with the Ministry of Economic Development. The event organization is realized by biella intraprendere s.p.a.

IBF 2009: a record attendance

International Book ForumThe main feature of the 2009 event was the hectic pace: more than 6000 meetings in the 30 hours of the forum. An absolute marathon for almost 700 partecipants coming from approximately thirty countries (Albania, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Mexico, Holland, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the USA) to take part in the IBF – International Book Forum 2009, the business to business area inside the Torino International Book Fair that is dedicated to publishing and audiovisual rights exchange and to developing new  publishing projects.

Among the publishing houses and literary agencies from Europe taking part were: Gallimard and Flammarion (France), C. Bertelsmann and Suhrkamp Verlag (Germany), Assirío & Alvim (Portugal), Norstedts Förlagsgrupp (Sweden), 451 Editores (Spain), Zed Books and Little Brown Book Group (Great Britain). The world of cinema was also well represented, with scouts and literary consultants from important production companies and talent agencies in America, like Fox, Creative Artists Agency, Marc Platt Productions, New Line Cinema, Smoke House; from France, groups like Grandeur Nature, from Germany Constantin Films among others, from Russia the Bazelevs and Central Partnership, from the UK Rosalind Ramsay Agency, Anne Louise Fischer Associates and The Bureau.

The IBF 2009 Conference sessions program

International Book ForumLike every year, the IBF is hostsing an interesting conference sessions program, with debates and discussions on the adaptation and translation rights exchange market.

The afternoon of Thursday May 14th will be entirely dedicated to the subject of adaptation, with a panel focused on the French market organized by the Bureau international de l’édition française.

European producers at the IBF: two Russian film companies for the first time at the International Book Forum

Many European producers and agents are usually attending the IBF looking for adaptation projects, but this year for the first time we are honored to announce the participation, among the other guests, of two producers from Russia:

  • Tatiana Ochinskaya from Russian film company Bazeleus, involved in the production of Timur Bekmambetov’s Wanted, based on Mark Millar’s graphic novel.
  • Movsesyan Aram Melistovich from Central Partnership, a Russian production and distribution company that is currently working on an animated version of Romeo and Juliet entitled Peregrine.

From Hollywood to Turin: American film companies at the IBF 2009

filmSeveral producers and literary scouts of the most important American and Canadian film companies are going to attend the IBF 2009:

  • Chris Goldberg, literary consultant at Fox. The company recently acquired the film rights of Go Like Hell by AJ Baime, a non-fictional account of the rivalry between Ford and Ferrari on the Le Mans race track. After distributing Slumdog Millionaire (winner of 8 Academy Awards, including the Oscar for best adaptation), Variety reports that Fox is in negotiations with director Ang Lee to produce The Life of Pi, from the Booker Prize winning novel of the same name by Yann Martel.

International Book ForumIBF 2009 already registers a new record number of attendees: more than 400 publishers and literary agents from all over the world and 120 foreign industry professionals (95 rights managers of publishing houses and literary agents, 25 film producers and scouts), who were able to attend thanks to the collaboration with Regione Piemonte – Assessorato Commercio e Fiere and the Italian Trade Commission (ICE). Publishers, literary agents, scouts and film producers from all over the world: these are the guests awaited at the IBF 2009. You can now discover their names, their companies and their country of origin  visualizing the updated participant list (the list is increasing every day).
