Ten years for Ibf, and it’s business record

Business record in the Ibf – International Book Forum, tenth year. The Fair business area dedicated to the publishing right exchange for translation and movie and tv adaptation confirms a growing trend. Even in 2011 Ibf – located for this edition in Lingotto Fiere Pavilion 5 – has been confirmed as a fundamental stage for international and Italian rights manager that arrived in Turin to meet, find new interlocutors and make busi¬ness. 6900 meetings on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. More than 700  professionals took part in the event, 90 invited in collaboration with Regione Piemonte and Italian Trade Commissiono (ICE), coming from more than 30 countries as  Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Lebanon, Germany, Mexico, Romania, Russian Federation, United States, Sweden. Literary agents, rights managers, producers and publishing scouts for cinema, tv and multimedia gave life to 170 tables fitted in Pavilion 5. More than 100 publishing projects presented at TFL Window, the publishing scouting counter created during the three days of the event in order to find out new “movie stories” realized in collaboration with TorinoFilmLab. In a few days time, it will be announced the title of the book that will be included in Script&Pitch, one of the development projects created by TorinoFilmLab in order to transform paper stories into products for the wide screen. Moreover, thanks to a partnership with Industry Books- Rome International Movie Festival, other 20 projects, chosen among the Italian and English titles proposed during Ibf, will be judged on July by a jury designated by Cinema Rome Foundation. 10 finalists titles, will be presented to national and international producers and distributors on October 27, 2011 during Rome Festival.
For what concerns publishing, even a larger number of publishing houses took part in Ibf 2011. English Faber & Faber e Serpent’s Tail, German Piper Verlag, American Waterside Production, Spanish  Random House French Editions Fayard. A large number of concluded negotiations: the book more requested has been Il Divoratore by Lorenza Ghinelli, published by Newton Compton, that sold translation rights to France, Spain, Brazil, Serbia, Russian Federation, Portugal and the Netherlands. Interesting negotiations even with United States, Turkey, Germany and Croatia. Arlinda Dudaj, owner of Dudaj Publishing (Albania), bought the traslation rights of Geronimo Stilton and Per sempre, the last novel by Susanna Tamaro published by Giunti, and started negotiation to acquire Oriana Fallaci rights. For what concerns literary agencies, Clementina Liuzzi Literary Agency sold the rights of the well known author Massimo Carlotto  to 16 international publishing houses, Viola di Grado rights to 6 and Elena Ferrante’s at 12.

In fact, during other events like London and Frankfurt it’s more difficult to make business as it is necessary to related with operators coming from lots of different countries. At Ibf, instead,it is possible to concentrate completely on Italian publishers and literary agents in order to start proficous relations”. Grat interest  among operators for the panel and debite program  e dedcated to Ibf operators: Question time: publishing rights in the internet era, with the lawyer Giorgio Spedicato, Professor of  Right of intellectual property at University of Bologna Law Faculty; Marketplace for digital publishing, with Raffaello Avanzini from Newton Compton Editori, Marco Ghezzi from Bookrepublic and La Stampa  journalist Bruno Ruffilli; Hybrid tv and new "drive" for contents. New solutions, new ways of fruition and new contents, with Gabriele Gresta from Digital Magics, Leonardo Chiariglione from Wimtv.it and Piero Gaffuri from Rainet. As every year, registered participants had at their disposal Ibf Lounge: more than 1500 lunches served by Valsesiain to Italian and international guests during the 3 days of the event. Collaboration with Pausa Cafè also. More than 2000 coffees during relax pausesbetween one meeting and the other.
